Indian Premier League IPL 2023
A men’s T20 franchise cricket league in India is called the Indian Premier League (IPL), which is often referred to as the TATA IPL due to sponsorship reasons. Ten teams from seven cities and three states compete in it every year. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) established the league in 2007. IPL’s current chairman is Brijesh Patel. It typically takes place in India’s warm months of March through May and has a special window in the ICC Future Tours Programme.
The IPL is the cricket league with the highest attendance worldwide. According to average attendance across all sports leagues in 2014, it came in sixth place. The IPL was the first athletic event in history to have a live YouTube broadcast in 2010. In 2022, the IPL had a brand value of 90,038 crores ($11 billion). The BCCI estimates that the 2015 IPL season increased India’s GDP by 1,150 crores ($140 million).
The IPL tournament has had fifteen seasons to date. The Gujarat Titans franchise currently holds the IPL championship after winning their inaugural season in 2022.
History OF IPL
Zee Entertainment Companies funded the establishment of the Indian Cricket League (ICL) in 2007. [10] The International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) did not recognize the ICL, and the BCCI was not happy that some of its committee members had joined the ICL executive board. The BCCI boosted the prize money for their own domestic competitions to deter players from joining the ICL, which the body viewed as a breakaway league, and also enforced lifetime bans on those who did.
Foundation of IPL
Following India’s success at the 2007 T20 World Cup, the BCCI launched the Indian Premier League, a franchise-based Twenty20 cricket league, on September 13th, 2007[14]. At a “high-profile ceremony” in New Delhi in April 2008, the first season was supposed to premiere. The IPL initiative was driven by BCCI vice-president Lalit Modi, who laid out the specifics of the competition, including its structure, prize money, franchise revenue scheme, and squad makeup guidelines. The top two clubs in the IPL would qualify for that year’s Champions League Twenty20, and the IPL would be governed by a seven-member board made up of former India players and BCCI executives.
Expansions and terminations
Before to the fourth season of 2011, the league welcomed Pune Warriors India and Kochi Tuskers Kerala on March 21, 2010. While Rendezvous Sports World paid $333.3 million for the Kochi franchise, Sahara Adventure Sports Group paid $370 million for the Pune location. But on November 11, 2011, one year after it was first announced, it was revealed that Kochi Tuskers Kerala will be disbanded because the team had violated the BCCI’s rules.

Organization
Player acquisition, squad composition, and salaries
A team can add players in one of three ways: through the yearly player auction, by dealing players with other teams during trading periods, or by signing replacements for injured or out-of-contract players. Participants register for the auction, select their starting bid, and are purchased by the franchise that makes the highest offer. Players who are not sold at the auction may be signed up as replacement signings. A player may only be traded within the trading windows with his approval, and the franchise will pay any difference between the old and new contracts. The athlete and the organization that purchased the player split the difference if the new contract is worth more than the previous one. Three trade windows often exist: two before the auction and one following it but before to the start of the tournament. Replacements can be signed before or during the event, but players cannot be traded outside of the trading windows or during it.
Match regulations IPL games contain television timeouts and so there is no time limit in which teams must complete their innings. Uncertain – discuss But, if the umpires determine that teams are abusing this privilege, a fine may be assessed. During each inning, each side is allowed a 2:50 minute “strategic timeout”; the bowling team must use one between the ends of the sixth and ninth overs and the batting team must use one between the ends of the thirteenth and sixteenth overs.
